Our office has been in Whitby for over 22 years since May 1985. Murray Miskin has been a driving force since the 1980s in preserving the heritage of the Town of Whitby. He and his wife Nancy restored the Old Whitby Library at Dundas and Byron Streets to its former grandeur. Our former office is now the home of the law firm of Canada's Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty and his wife Whitby/Ajax M.P.P. Christine Elliott. Whitby now has a population of over 120,000 and has more than tripled in size since the Miskin law office arrived. Durham Region headquarters and courts are located in Whitby. The courts will be moving to Oshawa once a new courthouse is constructed. Due to non-renewability of our lease in December 2007, we had to move and our new Whitby location is in the Whitby Square Plaza at 223 Brock Street North just north of Mary Street on the east side. From the 401 take the Brock Street (Highway 12) Whitby exit and drive north past Highway 2 (Dundas Street) which is known as the four corners in downtown Whitby. The first light north of Dundas is Mary Street and we are just past there on your right with free parking in the plaza lot. Our new location is ideal except that it is only accessible up a flight of 20 stairs. Arrangements can be made for clients who are unable to climb the stairs and our Yonge Street, Toronto office is fully accessible as an alternative meeting place.

Our Toronto office on Yonge just north of the 401 and south of Sheppard is designed to accommodate arbitrations, small mediations and other meetings conducted by Murray and Nancy Miskin and other meetings but mainly serves as a meeting place for law firm York Region, Toronto and west of Toronto clients. See our photo page. Entry is through building security and by appointment only. All visitors are required to sign in and obtain badges from the security desk. For direct TTC access enter the building from the Poyntz Avenue exit at the south end of the platform for Yonge Street trains. When exiting to get back into the subway you will need a token (available for purchase at a machine) or Metropass as there is only an automated entrance from the Concourse Level of the Procter and Gamble Building. For mediations use of the facility is free and visitors have free underground parking at the building. We have free fax, free reasonable long distance use and free wireless internet access available to people using this facility.
We encourage non GTA clients to call us toll free at 877-428-8000. All calls are received centrally at our Whitby office and can be transferred to our other locations.
Working with Murray Miskin there are five permanent full time Miskin law office staff and Michelle Brown, a personal injury lawyer. Lea-Ann Kelly, a legal secretary/law clerk joined our staff in November 2006 and is now primary litigation assistant to Murray Miskin. Lea-Ann is also our ADR coordinator and the person to speak to about booking Mediation, Arbitration or taking the Arbitration Course. Our senior law clerk Anna Veldhuis is a member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario. Anna, who has been with our firm since 1992, deals with complex issues related to insurance work, new case screening and trial and settlement preparation. Other lawyers may contact Anna directly regarding Agency matters in Whitby which are handled through our firm quickly and at very reasonable cost. Arlene Nicholson is also a very experienced law clerk who handles our bookkeeping, real estate transactions, corporate, estate and will matters. Linda King handles front desk reception duties and assists with real estate files. Stephanie Huggins is Michelle Brown's secretary and can be reached at extension 112. Stephanie is also responsible for communications with Vioxx, Bextra and Asbestos clients. We do answer the phone during office hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm weekdays) if you press "0" (zero) when you hear a recording when first calling. We have a 24 hour voice mail system as well which provides information and private messages can be left for any of our staff. If you call to our Whitby, Toronto or Peterborough office numbers your call will be routed by our fully integrated VOIP (internet based) phone system to whatever extension you call or to our Whitby reception desk. You can call as a local call from Toronto to 416-492-0989, from the Pickering area to our Ajax number 905-428-8000, or use our main Whitby number 905-430-8880. We have direct 705 area code phone access with seven digit local dialling from the Peterborough local calling area to 755-7363. You may call toll-free from the United States or Canada outside the local Area Codes. Dial 1-877-428-8000. If you call and reach voice mail you can, from a touch tone phone, immediately reach any extension. If you wish our staff may during office hours transfer you to a voice mail extension. If you are on the voice mail system and do not push any extension you will be transferred to a receptionist or after hours a general voice mail box which is checked regularly. Family lawyer Max Rapoport who works in our office with secretary Kym, has his own phone system (905-668-1712) and can not be reached through our lines, fax or voice mail system. We do have common reception services at the front desk assisting all three lawyers in the office. When calling the Miskin law office for general non-private messages wait for the end of the greeting to speak. Messages will be relayed to the proper person. If you do not have a touch tone phone available you will be relayed to our general voice message box by the system and can leave a message there.
